Friday goes off like a bomb: Oakleigh vs SJW

November 12th, 2007

The Oakleigh venturer’s expected attack on SJW venturer unit elicted a large rally of resources to counter attack last friday night.

The counter-attack was elaborate and involved both the scouts and venturers, including a lot of equipment.

The set-up went like this:

4:30pm, Matt & Emile meet to start preparations for Operation RAS-S, which included simultaineous decorating of Oakleigh’s den to coincide with their attack of ours. We constructed an elaborate sign and purchased munitions for the main strike.

6:30pm, the venturer unit waited at the den, cooking up large amounts of dough & other gooey wonderful things. We tested CB radios and went over what we would do.

6:45pm, Matt & Emile leave for Oakleigh den. On the way down the driveway a car pulled in behind us - with nowhere to go, we dived in bushes beside the road. We spent the next twenty minutes pinned down by the car’s occupant’s headlights. Went in, put up the sign and returned to the den.

7:05pm, no sign of Oakleigh. Spotters are sent out around Ashgrove and SJW. Scouts are told their places - we set up a fake soccer game to lure Oakleigh in.

7:15pm, we decide to start the wide game, without sight of Oakleigh. Three minutes into Matt’s introductions, we hear over the radio multiple reports of people carrying water bombs coming down Waterworks road.

7:20pm, with the scouts in position, we waited for Oakleigh to come in. Flares (literally) gave away our position (or was it our excited whispers?). The call to attack was announced by Matt’s bugle.

7:40pm, everyone is completely soaked/dirty. We decide to continue the wide game with Oakleigh, and end up playing a real game of soccer together for the rest of the night.

Justification for use of non-water munition is water restrictions. ;)
